Your Wedding Day Mandap Installation Timeline

By Book a Mandap ·

Empty grand ballroom with chandeliers before the mandap is installed

On the morning of your wedding, you should be getting ready with family, not wondering whether your mandap has arrived. Understanding the mandap installation timeline helps you plan your day with confidence and know exactly what is happening behind the scenes while you prepare.

The weeks before: confirming the details

A smooth installation starts well before the wedding day. In the weeks leading up to it, your mandap hire team will confirm your final design, floral choices, ceremony timings and venue logistics. This is the moment to share any changes to guest numbers, room layout or the order of the ceremony.

Your venue will also want to know when the team is arriving and how long they need. If you have not yet discussed access and fire rules, our guide to working with your venue on mandap setup explains what to cover.

  • Final mandap design, colours and floral details
  • Confirmed ceremony start time and running order
  • Venue access time, loading route and on-the-day contact
  • Agreed approach to the sacred fire with the venue and your priest
  • Any seating, aisle or stage elements included in your package

Arrival and installation on the wedding day

Installation usually takes around two to four hours, depending on the size and complexity of the design. A simple, elegant structure can go up relatively quickly, while a grand canopy with extensive florals, draping and lighting needs more time. Your supplier will build in a sensible buffer so nothing is rushed.

The team typically begins with the base and staging, then assembles the pillars and canopy before adding drapery, florals and finishing touches. Fresh flowers are often added later in the process so they look their best when guests arrive.

A sample mandap installation timeline

Every wedding is different, but a morning ceremony might follow a pattern like the one below. Your own timings will depend on your venue's access window and how elaborate your mandap is.

  • Early morning: the team arrives, unloads and checks the room layout with the venue
  • First hours: staging, pillars and canopy are assembled and secured
  • Next: draping, florals, lighting and seating for the couple and family are added
  • Final hour: styling, safety checks and a tidy of the ceremony space
  • Before guests arrive: handover to the venue team or your coordinator

Final checks before the ceremony

Before handing over, the team will check that everything is stable, safe and exactly as planned. This includes making sure cables are tidied away, pathways are clear for the bride's entrance and the priest has what they need around the ceremony area.

It is a good idea to have a trusted family member or your wedding coordinator take a quick look once set-up is complete. They can confirm details such as where the kalash, puja items and seating for parents are placed. Customs vary between families and communities, so it is worth confirming these arrangements with your pandit in advance.

After the ceremony: turnarounds and removal

If your ceremony and reception are in the same room, the mandap may need to be moved or taken down during a turnaround. Alternatively, many couples keep it in place as a stunning backdrop for the reception and family photographs. Agree which option you prefer early on, as it affects timings for both your venue and your supplier.

Removal is usually carried out at the end of the event or at an agreed time the following day, depending on venue rules. Delivery, installation and removal are included within our main service area, so you do not need to arrange anything separately.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to install a mandap?

Installation usually takes around two to four hours, depending on the design, the amount of floral work and how easy it is to access the ceremony space.

Do I need to be at the venue during installation?

No. The team works with the venue directly, so you can focus on getting ready. It can be helpful for a family member or coordinator to do a final check once set-up is complete.

Can the mandap stay up for the reception?

Often, yes. Many couples keep the mandap as a backdrop for the reception, provided the room layout and the venue's schedule allow it.
